Tiny Island

IMG_6511

I have plans to sort through our Bermuda pictures this weekend. Easy and I had such a fabulous time on that tiny little island. I can't wait to recap it and put my memories into text for us to look back on in the years to come.

Every day we spent there was a gift.

Where It's At. part 2.

Untitled

The next few days on our UT excursion were spent with cousins.

The girls relish in every moments spent with my brothers' kids.

We enjoyed picnics. Hikes. Aggie Ice cream. Shave ice. Amazing food. And of course with my family there needs be some sort of gas-powered fun too.

 Go-karts.

And motorcycle rides were a hit.

On our last full day we drove from Logan up to Bear Lake and swam all afternoon.  Out of pure necessity we enjoyed some Famous Raspberry Shakes on the way back home.

Before heading back to CO we spent one last night with Aunt Ashley.

CO sure knows how to make a person feel missed. The drive home was gorgeous and we relished in the view until about 2 hours from home when we learned that a tornado had hit our small town.

We picked us a pizza and arrived home to a dark neighborhood. The power had been out for hours and there was debris everywhere. The almost completed velodrome near our house was half flattened. A semi tipped over.  Friend's and neighbor's basements were flooded and buried in mud. And one of our neighbors had their roof partly ripped off.

We were grateful that our home was intact with very little damage. My poor garden did not fare as well.

UT. It's Where It's At.

part 1.

We pulled into Easy's parents new house a few hours after midnight with 4 very sleepy/groggy girls on our hands.
The trip through WY is rather dull to put it nicely - even in the daylight.

The next morning I ditched my cute family for the weekend to be with my best girlfriends from high school. We got lunch then went up to Brighton for a small hike.

I have to tell you that I love these girls with all my heart. We pick it all up right where we have left off. Any walls that we have put up in our lives come down and we just be. There is no judgement, no lame getting-to-know-you talks, and no feeling like you have to act or be a certain way. We ask about our families because we care about each other's families. We discuss our struggles, our fears, and our successes. It's basically like one big fat therapy session.

Needless to say we stayed up waaaaay to late chatting - but we made it in great time for our trail race in Ogden the next morning. I have been training for Ragnar so I was pretty pumped to try and make good time. I didn't realize how much a trail (with obstacles) would slow me down but I ended up placing 30th overall out of 350 ladies and 15th in my age group. There were 4 river crossings, 3.5' tree trunks to jump over, busted fences to hop, 1 million stairs, and sand and Aspens to dodge around.

Best part? Winning 1st prize for best costumes. Badass I tell ya.

That night we got pedicures, took UTA Trax downtown, went to dinner, hit up the bareMinerals booth,  and did some shopping.

Untitled

The next morning we slept in before meeting back up with our babies.

I was growing tired of seeing all the fun they were having without me.

Monday morning Easy's parents were kind enough to watch our girls while we crossed hiking Mt Timpanogos off our bucket list - I love them.

We got started at 4am, picked up my brother and his wife, and then hit the trail from Sundance. There is another trail that starts from AF canyon that is a couple miles shorter. We started in the dark with one flashlight for the 4 of us. Seeing the sunrise on the horizon was nothing short of magical.

The trail is so beautiful and varied. It went from dense forest, to tropical waterfalls, to open valleys with a glacier fed lake, rocky boulders, and finally to the steep cliffs on the tippy top.

We took it pretty slow and made it to the top in about 5 hours. I loved spending that time with Easy, my brother (this was his first hike, like ever) and Lindy who this was her 4th time up.  We had a quick lunch because it was freezing! Then headed back down.

It was so fun checking out all the beautiful waterfalls we missed in the dark.

I needed them to ice my granny-knees.

It was pretty awesome to look up at that big ol mountain from the valley for the next few days and know that we stood there.

You still there. Sleeping? I'll pick it up again tomorrow with the rest.

As of right now the two cutest girls are about to be home from their first day of school. I need to get a nice snack prepped for them and be ready to hear all about it. :)

Back to School F&C

f&c back to school

It's been a while since I've done a Faves and Craves!

I have to be honest. We are doing all we can to get excited about school starting in a week. The girls don't want to go. I don't want them to go. I love our carefree days at home without all the mindless running around. We go at our own pace and enjoy our calm mornings and evenings.

1. Last year I bought these Goodbyn lunch boxes and I absolutely loved packing them full of goodies for Ava. Way less waste!!

2. We are in uniforms again this year. I love it. They know exactly what to wear in the morning and it really cuts down on the laundry. Most of our uniforms are from Old Navy, Land's End, and Target. I have even found a few cute things at Walmart.

3. We have decided to invest in good sturdy backpacks for the kids after buying cheap ones and only having them last half the year. We bought Mae a new one from REI and with their satisfaction guarantee we can be sure that if something wears out or breaks they will replace it. Yay!

4. Our favorite shoes for school are Converse and Toms. Both are comfy for everyday wear but also work for running, swinging, and sliding on the playground. I'm hoping the ones I bought for Ava last Christmas finally fit her. Whoops.

5. About a month ago Costco was selling these water bottles in a 3 pack. I skipped over them and a week later they were all gone. I was so bummed!! Not to worry though I found them on Amazon and they will be here Saturday! Our water bottles have taken a beating this summer!!!

6. Since uniforms can be a bit of a bore we like to spice them up a bit with fun leggings (on sale for $5!) and...

7. Hair accessories - which I'm hoping to whip a few new ones up in the next week. If you aren't too crafty Etsy has great finds!

Yesterday we did our supply shopping which helped us get a little more used to the idea of school starting.

Monday we will see what classes they are in and Tuesday evening we will meet the teachers.

Hopefully by the time Thursday rolls around we will be a little more warmed up to the idea - but I'm not counting on it.

What are your favorite school items for your kids?
I love a good suggestion!

Perfect

Untitled-1
Are you a math person? I'm not. I have 2 brothers that are though. Both of them are whizzes with numbers.

And thanks to them, my daughters now know about perfect numbers. And lucky for Miss Mae she gets to be a perfect number now for a whole year.

She is 6!

Her birthday was low key - going to the zoo in the evening as a family and swimming at the neighborhood pool with friends that morning.

Untitled Untitled

She has turned into quite the fish this summer so it was fitting to celebrate in the water with a little ocean themed gathering.

Untitled

She is a wonderful girl full of spunk. Everyday is an adventure with her around. She is bold and caring - generous and sincere.

Untitled

She has the most contagious giggle and is accepting of anyone who crosses her path. We all adore her!!!

Happy Birthday My Dear Girl!

This 6th year is going to be just perfect!
