At the beginning of the summer Ava was invited to be part of a book club for 7-8yr olds - mostly as a way for mom's to keep these new readers going through the summer with the promise of fun parties and new friends for the girls. It has been the highlight of my daughter's summer!

We waited and waited for our turn to host. All the books selected were from the American Girl collections. Ours was about Caroline - a fierce little girl from the late 1800's with a passion for sailing and dreams of captaining her own boat on Lake Ontario.

We ate fish crackers, swedish fish, had ocean water (blue Gatorade), and marshmallows dipped in white chocolate then sprinkled with sand (graham cracker crumbs).

Then we practiced tying knots - the figure 8 knot and square knots around our toes.

And finally we painted and sailed our own boats.

My girls continued to sail theirs for the rest of the day and tie knots in everything.

Speaking of reading I have finally picked up a couple of books for myself:

What are you reading? Any recommendations for me??

A kid book group sounds awesome.

I have so many book recommendations: The Snow Child by Ivey is amazing, The Cuckoo's Calling by Gailbraith is difficult to put down and is rich in psychology, humor, mystery, and tight prose. The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Bradley is so great. The Wild Iris by Gluck (sp) is beautiful, mourning poetry.

The end. :)

So fun! And I agree that The Snow Child is amazing! The Lost Wife by Alyson Richman is also a wonderful book. I also really enjoyed The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern.
