Home Sweet Home

We left our home in Arkansas yesterday around noon. It's always hard to leave a good home. This one we will especially miss.

This is the place where I so nervously left for my first job as a nurse, where Ava came bounding off the bus her first day of Kindergarten, where Mae turned 5 and we partied all day in the back yard. This is where Roo grew from a baby to a little girl full of personality and language. This is the home we welcomed our sweet baby Rosie to when she was born almost a year ago. This is where we lived when Easy accepted his new job at White Wave and quit working for General Mills after 6 years.

It is where we welcomed new friends, family from afar, and made some of our greatest memories.

It's a place we leave proud.

Packed and Loaded

Uploaded from the Photobucket iPhone App

The movers loaded the last of our boxes into the truck this afternoon. I am sweeping up, vacuuming, wiping windowsills and blinds, and scrubbing bathrooms.

All the while, my heart is aching about leaving Arkansas. Gosh, we have really loved it here and seriously have the greatest friends!!! This move and change has been such a whirlwind that I haven't given myself the chance to even let it all seep in, but now I am feeling the ache and it is so hard.

It really was like yesterday that we set off on our adventure with our little family to the south across Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and Oklahoma. I was so shocked at people calling me ma'm. Some folks I couldn't even understand. I hated the humidity. The bugs made me want to throw up and we never thought we would make it out alive during tornado season.

The other day when we came home from Colorado and stepped off the plane I, surprisingly, welcomed the humid southern air with a big breath in. I was home. As we drove the back to the house the trees seemed extra thick and were more than ever like giant green walls on either side of the highway.

I won't lie and tell you that our lives here were complete bliss because the year that I worked full time as a night nurse and Easy was new to the office was super hard on us. But I will tell you that both he and I learned the most valuable lessons that year.

Like how we can do anything...for a year.
We learned how nice it is to sleep with your best friend right by your side. And how hard it is to miss out on the sweet moments with our kids like bedtime, morning snuggles, and after school greetings.
We can relate to feelings of dropping kids off at daycare or at a babysitter's for the day and how you can see in your baby's little eyes that they just want to be with you.
We learned to not judge others because you really really do not know their battles.
We learned to hold our tongues and just listen - sometimes our own opinions are just better kept to ourselves.

I still hate the bugs but I am so proud that at one time in our lives we have called NW Arkansas home. It really is a terrific place and hey, we even got the world's greatest souvenir...

a baby! Our own little Arkie Rosebud.

Imagining Colorado

Our house hunting trip was quite the whirlwind. We took the littlest chickies and off we went out of Branson, MO.

They were seriously the sweetest little peaches, just as patient and tolerant as we could have asked for. We went from house to house, rentals to rental, saw quite a few for sale, then from realtor to rental agent to realtor. Rent? Buy? Rent? Buy? At the end of the day we were confused, dead tired, and going in circles.

But the mountains were beautiful! And the air was crisp! It was cool in the shade and warm in the sun. People riding bikes EVERYWHERE! We went up to Boulder had dinner and people watched (loads of hippies!) We imagined ourselves in this new place exploring, camping, biking, hiking, picnicking, and setting down loads and loads of roots. We imagined buying a home in a year in the cutest neighborhood with a pool and park down the street.

And after all that...when all was said and done we flew home totally empty handed. We decided against the place we thought we were getting, re-prioritized, and then finally (yesterday) settled on a home that I think will be fantastic for the time being. It will be perfect.

Plus there was the sweetest care package on my front porch. Xoxo. Thanks Rachelle. :)

AR ---> CO

If you haven't guessed it yet, we are in fact, moving our family again.

Easy and I are headed out soon to find ourselves a new home in Denver, CO. It still feels totally surreal and I struggle to say it out loud.

We are soooooo excited and also soooooo nervous. It's very bittersweet leaving Arkansas. We have made wonderful friends here with some of the greatest people we have ever met. The only thing that makes me feel okay is remembering that silent conformation I got that this choice is a good one for our family.

Colorado Mountain Pride

Colorado Fun Facts:

1. Colorado is the only state in history, to turn down the Olympics. In 1976 the Winter Olympics were planned to be held in Denver. 62% of all state Voters choose at almost the last minute not to host the Olympics, because of the cost, pollution and population boom it would have on the State Of Colorado, and the City of Denver.

2. In Fruita, the town folk celebrate 'Mike the Headless Chicken Day'. Seems that a farmer named L.A. Olsen cut off Mike's head on September 10, 1945 in anticipation of a chicken dinner - and Mike lived for another 4 years without a head.

3. Denver, lays claim to the invention of the cheeseburger.

4. The highest paved road in North America is the Road to Mt. Evans off of I-70 from Idaho Springs. The Road climbs up to 14,258 Ft. above sea level.

5. Every year Denver host the worlds largest Rodeo, the Western Stock show.

6. Denver has the largest city park system in the nation with 205 parks in City limits and 20,000 Acres of parks in the nearby mountains.

7. Colorado has more microbreweries per capita than any other state.

8. The world's largest natural hot springs pool located in Glenwood Springs. The two-block long pool is across the street from the historic Hotel Colorado, a favorite stop of former president Teddy Roosevelt.

9. Colorado's southwest corner borders Arizona, New Mexico and Utah the only place in America where the corners of four states meet.

10. Abundant nesting and migrating birds and other native animals provide a "world-class" watchable wildlife experience. Bald eagles and other raptors, sandhill cranes, shore birds and water birds can be seen seasonally at San Luis Lakes near Alamosa.

The weather in Arkansas has been gorgeous lately. The humidity has lifted, the leaves are beginning to fall, and in the mornings and evenings there is a gentle cool breeze that sweeps across The Ozarks.

IMG_3517

There is a big change happening here that I will formally announce tomorrow, but for now we really really needed some family pics in this beautiful southern element of ours.

IMG_3501

I texted Rach Saturday night and told her I would get everything set up so all she really would have to do is be the trigger finger on my camera and she agreed (I knew she would).

IMG_3633

After church on Sunday I ran around the house digging through drawers grabbing clothing, headbands, shoes. Brights!

And we headed off to the Mt Hebron cemetery where there is this perfect little old church house that I drive by every now and then.

IMG_3540

It felt rushed, chaotic, and I worried (a little) that they wouldn't turn out.

But Rach just kept her finger on the shutter and in between poses she busted out confetti poppers to entertain the girls - genius I tell ya!

IMG_3587

And the pictures turned out so good!!!

I love them!

Even where Easy and I decide to pose like we are going to prom together. (I wish!)

Little Bug

IMG_2670

So. Remember a few months ago when I made that quilt and I swore up and down that I would never ever make a quilt again.

Well I did - just quite a bit smaller for my new sweetest little baby niece Gwen.

I mean how could I not!

IMG_2676 IMG_2673

Yeah, I officially think I've caught a little quilting bug.
