Checking in from Up North

Hi!

I'm up in Nevada hanging with my people (10 year HS reunion. Eeeeeek!) and enjoying temps below three digits.

No worries, I promise to be back soon.

Camping The Rim

Photobucket
atop the rim

This weekend we escaped the heat that has decided to make our lives a hot living hell again. We brought some friends up to the Mongollon Rim (mo-gee-on) where G-Dizzle endured her first camping trip.

Photobucket

Too bad we forgot her port-a-crib.
Too bad she had to sleep on my chest all night.
And too bad that every time I tried to move she would scream out in absolute protest threatening to get us kicked out of the campgrounds.

It was a long night.
And I was very stiff the next morning.
Oh, but she is soooo cute and I still try to eat those little cheeks off her daily.

Photobucket

The rest of her gang.

Photobucket Photobucket

Other than that she was an absolute delight.
And we always love a good camping trip.
Even with a screaming baby.
And especially one that involves beans!

Photobucket

Do you know who else loves camping???
Blondes does.
She finally gets it now.
The excitement is starting to soak in.
She is a girl after my own heart.

Photobucket

Her sister on the other hand, with her dirty little face and tired eyes, cried and told me she wanted to go home.

You know what that means though?
We only have up to go from here!

done and done

lab practice 6/3/10

Yesterday was brutal.
I don't know how many times I hit the refresh button on the grades web page for school.
I think I checked it at:

7 am
7:35
8:15
8:16
9:00
9:30

...and on and on until finally at like 6:45 pm when there was a change in the numbers.

And my heart jumped once or twice as I did the calculations.

Passed.

Phew!
I passed.

Which is soooo great!

Then the realization sinks in that I'm almost done. That I'll hopefully graduate in 6 more months. That I'll be a nurse. That this all will have paid off. Agh!

Then I get the messages from friends who barely missed the grade. Like, ba-r-el-y. I want to cry for them, hit something for them, it's heartbreaking. Heartbreaking because I know how good they are and how a grade - a stupid grade - determines our futures after 18 months of working our tails off. Not that it's the end of the road - because there are certainly options and opportunities to retake classes and get into other programs, but setbacks are the worst!

...

At least for the next six weeks it's over. I get to be here with my sweet family. I get to go on vacation, see my parents, sleep in a tent, and lay by the pool all guilt free. That's the best part - not feeling guilty for just enjoying myself - not feeling like I should be studying.

That and getting to read a good book.

:)

ode to Easy

Photobucket

Easy has been the primary caregiver the last week as I have been studying for my final.
You can see that we've needed someone to take charge around here.

Not only had he taken off work two days to be the stay-at-home-dad, but he has also been making strides on the house.

Photobucket

Ordering our carpet!
Yay!
No more random obscene smells!
I can't wait.

Photobucket

Fixing sprinklers.
Which I had no idea he knew how to do.

Photobucket

Patching tiles on the roof (MJ style).

Photobucket

Hanging ceiling fans so we can sleep peacefully again.

Photobucket

And getting the grass to grow.
Well, kind-of grow.

Not to mention carting the girls around to swimming lessons and play dates.
And also bringing home CArolina's the night of my final.

Thanks Babe!
I'm back.
And now you can rest for the next 6 weeks.

well, we have done it.

after writing my signature more than minnie mouse ever has - easy and i have officially purchased our first home.

what a crazy feeling!

i have never painted my own walls - and now i can.
i have never planted perennials - and now i can.
i have never bought carpet - and now we are.

(so glad i worked at Home Depot for 3 years!)

and guess what else?

we have a guest room - so there are no more excuses for our friends and family not coming to stay - well except that it's so hot here you want to rip your eyes out.

see you next month mom and dad!

in the air and on the beach

Photobucket
Zuma Beach, Malibu 2010

We were itching to get out of town over the weekend. We could either stay and work on the house or bolt to LA.

We chose to bolt.

I'm so glad we did. Easy's parents take such good care of us. When we visit parental worries are minimal, the sun is always shining, and our girls are in play kitchen-dressup-dollhouse-barbie-heaven.

Photobucket

The beach in LA has always been a little hit-or-miss for us. I was nervous since inland a ways it was pretty chilly.

Photobucket Photobucket

You know what though? It ended up being fantastic. Especially since Aunt Ashley was there with us too.

Photobucket Photobucket

My girls are funny. We couldn't keep Blondes out of the water while MaeMae prefered sitting with Grandma and Papa under the shade. We enjoyed jets spelling out "Love is in the Air" over and over, ATV's with Sheriffs kindly waving to the girls, airplane advertisements, coast guard boats, diving pelicans, and the usual beach people-watching.

Photobucket

I was really just glad to get a little of a break and actually have some well deserved time with my husband.

Photobucket

Plus more time with this girl, because really, you can never get enough.

blondes came in to easy this morning at the expected 7am.

"i want you to help me get mom some cereal." she whispered. "it's her birthday."

so they went in together where she hand picked the coveted pink bowl and the princess spoon for me.

she colored me a traditional gardiner birthday sign and easy wrote me the perfect note.

i think it's going to be a great day.
