a woman's opinion

i need an opinion...or more.

i spent sunday all sick, hot, snotty, and coughing with little roo by my side. E took the girls to church.

i started working on a skirt that has had me intimidated for the past week or so (patterns are scary).

he came home.

i continued to sew this scary skirt and finally finished it as the girls were going to bed, feeling rather proud of my invisible zipper (which was the most awful part, by far) and that it actually resembled the picture.

i put it on (hooray it fits!) and asked him about it.

he shrugs. he makes a little face. he doesn't like it.

i tell him that it is cute and this just means that he is getting old (30), but secretly i'm pretty unsure of it too.

here is where some of you come in: i'm determined to have a woman's advice before i just decide to shove the thing in the back of my closet.

Photobucket

maybe it's the gold??

dang...i should have gone with black.

Honest? I wouldn't buy it if I saw it in a store. BUT I'm incredibly impressed with the sewing skills. I think it lacks shape. But that's just me. I'm in the minority I'm sure.

Love it!

I think I am with Alisha on this one. I think maybe its the type of material. I don't know, the color doesn't bother me, but something just doesn't seem right, I even like the pattern I just think the material doesn't hang right. Do I even make sense? Hope I was helpful :)

I do like it- there is something though, perhaps the gold fabric? I like that the skirt is different though- I have a dress that does not fit my form, and matt doesn't like it for that reason. but I like it because it is different, AND I get compliments on it when I wear it- so perhaps it is the lack of form, and maybe a little of the color- but I still think it has a neat look about it.

I think it's darling and flattering. You are so dang skinny. I think gold is in now. With some cute jewelry and little flats, I like it. Plus you did a great job sewing it! I'm about to make my girls Easter dresses and it's probably the easiest pattern out there....I'm still scared.
Wear it. It looks cute!

I like it if you have boobs, which you still have nursing boobs, right?? can I ask that on your blog? something on top to balance out the amazing waist (really, how do you do these things?)

You don't know me--I've been following for a while every since I somehow stumbled on your blog and was impressed with the chicken coop you made. But about the skirt--are you kidding me?! It's gorgeous, especially with the right top and shoes! Totally haute couture.

Do you mind revealing which pattern you used?

Oh, and I also love your photography and videos. By the way, I'm also a nurse (actually a new nurse practitioner) and am way impressed with your ability to juggle school, three adorable little girls, and everything else you do!

I need to add though that I have no fashion sense whatsoever. So just disregard my opinion completely. haha.

Holy cow that's awesome! I can't believe you did that on your own. My sewing skills are pretty much non existent...so kudos to you.

I say if you have boobs (like sheena already stated) then it would totally look amazing...I dig the detail on the waist.

hays said...

a haha! you guys and your boobs!

p.s. i'll be sure to wear my push-up.

I do think it is cute. I think it would be cuter if it weren't such a box like shape though- maybe some how add some triangle shaped pieces to make it more A shaped rather then a box. You look AMAZING. Your waist is tiny tiny. So inspiring. ;)

I love the color. I always wear black, white, and brown and I have been trying to get away from that. I don't know why but I just pick out clothes without color! I do agree with those that said it needs the right shirt and accessories. I think that could make or break it. But wow, impressive! I'd love to see a follow up entry with shoes, shirt, etc. Just to see how it all gets put together.

(trac:those previous posts from 'the wifey' aren't me)

i LOVE it! i think it would look great with or without boobs. i'm personally digging the a-b cup look now-a-days. i think the key to that skirt is a big fat bracelet (or a lot of bangles) and a longer necklace. once again, i LOVE it.
(my opinion has nothing to do with the fact that i wanna be you...)

I think it is so cute! I love the top of it! So impressed that you made it!

I know nothing about sewing. But WHAT a hard fabric to work with (okay, I saw a few episodes of project runway)! You wear it. Put a full body shot on here. The garbage bag comment made me laugh, but take the flash off, hold a baby wear a flirty, cuffed top. It is pretty. And I must say, I am not surprised really by anything you do. I haven't known you forever, but have had plenty of glimpses to say-- all these creative and thriving things you do in your life is you being true to you. <3

nicwoo said...

ps. what font is your blog title/header?

nicwoo said...

let me guess- you created it. ;)

I do like it, but maybe if it was more form fitting in the skirt. I do LOVE the color too...(and black would have been awesome too).

I wish I had sewing skills....

It's a cute pattern, but the shiny gold fabric isn't right. I'd try it in a thick cotton blend and probably best to stick with solids.

AWesome job though!
