She looks really sweet but...

...this girl has been driving us crazy lately!

She will be 2 in 1 month and I am getting pretty scared. She won't clean up, she won't nap or go to bed without a fight, she won't eat, and she has to get herself into and out of the car (which takes about 20min). She strings her toys from one end of the house to the other, she changes back into her pajamas at least 2x a day, and she comes into our room before 6 every morning.

I feel totally guilty today though:

She won't take a nap and I put her back into her bed at least 15x, so I put the baby gate across her door. She whines and whines, "Mommy, no nigh-night. Mommy nigh-night." She wants me to lay down with her, but I know that If I do that she will not sleep. I just pray that she'll not wake up Mae. So I sit at the computer where she can't see me and ignore her. Then, it's silent. So I wait a few minutes. Yep, still silent. I walk toward to her room and she has thrown a diaper, wipes, shoes, and pants into the hall. Great. I know that there is a huge mess in her room, but she is just sleeping on the floor with a new pair of pants on. Surprisingly, she has them on right. As I approach her I notice the all too familiar smell of a poopy diaper. Yes, she had pooped and was trying to get my attention to come change her before going to bed. Why didn't she just say, "Mommy...poopoo.?" That would be too easy and I probably wouldn't have believed her. Yep, that's me...guilty!

I consider just leaving her, but cannot bear the feeling of being the unfit mother who punishes her daughter for not going to sleep by not changing her diaper. So wake her up, change her, and put her in bed. Now, I can enjoy (hopefully at least 1 hour) of quiet. Yes!

ah yes, i hate when youre dying for a few moments of you time. hoping one child wont wake the other, and praying theyll both just sleep! i think jonas has finally given up naps. im not too happy about that. but, at least hell go down for a little "quiet time". how far apart are mae and ava?

Oh Hayley, I am so sorry to hear your saga, but I am right there with you. Everything is a fight! i was so angry a month before Lynnie turned 2 because I should have had 1 month left of a wonderful daughter... It doesn't work that way. Sorry, but I feel like an unfit mother most the time. I think that's what makes us good moms! Love ya, good luck

Oh and stick to your guns, it does get a little better if you don't back down! It has for us at least.

you can do it hayley...it's a nightmare for a few months but then all of a sudden mae will be crawling and your little girls are friends and it is the sweetest thing ever (most of the time...until mae has a toy ava wants)

And believe me when i say this: ava poops before bed because she KNOWS you will come and change her, and buy herself 5 more minutes of your time. Trust me, our kids are WAY smarter than we are. Just stick her in feetie jammies she can't get off (so she won't be tempted to play in the poop...refer to my blog on that one) and if she poops in her diaper, too bad. It sounds rough, but she really will learn quickly to poop in the potty before bed or to wait until she wakes up.

one thing that worked for reese when i potty trained her (i put her in diapers at nap and bedtime) Is buying princess night night pants for naptime (pull ups) but if she pooped in them she had to wear a regular diaper at bedtime. The pull ups were more expensive, but she likes them and wants to keep them dry, so when she does, i use them again at bedtime.

good luck, you won't want to throw her out the window for long! She's so cute!

Honestly, I think ever child goes through this stage. Luckily, you know that it is just a stage and that this too will end. It also just means that in the not too distant future she will be plotting and getting ready for the next stage. Some are definitely better then others! At least she makes up for it with a super sweet face.

Oh no! I dread bedtime at our house. Jonah does EVERYTHING he can to buy more time. Some nights he says he wants to clean his room (right...) and starts singing the cleanup song....just so he doesn't have to go to sleep.

2 is tough but it's SOO funny too.

and MEG: can you please come potty train my kid--you sound like a pro.

sheena did you HEAR the poop on the wall story? no professionals here... just a LOT of chocolate and a LOT of blogging (WAY cheaper than therapy!)

btw-did you see that walmart now carries a knock off brand of those Candoo "big kid" flushable wipes? Parents Choice makes them and they're super cheap. Reese calls them her "jungle wipes" (yay! more bribery tools!) and it's a lot easier than teaching her how to not use 20 squares of toilet paper every time she goes pee.

BANANANUTMEG... I knew Brad and Darcie when they lived here in Arizona. They were in the ward that Hayley is in now. Darcie and I got to know each other when we worked in Young Women's together. Brad's brother and sister-in-law were also in the ward, but moved out shortly after Brad and Darcie moved. Very small world! Hope that explains everything. :)
